MBChB, MMed O&G (UFS), Cert Reproductive Medicine (SA)

Dr Jaco was born and grew up in Potchefstroom in the old Western Transvaal. After matriculating at Gimnasium High School in 1993, he enrolled into studying Medicine at the University of the Free State. Following his graduation in 1999 and completion of his internship, he returned to the same University to specialize and graduated (cum laude) at the age of 31 as a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

In 2008 he moved into full-time private practice in Potchefstroom Medi Clinic, mainly practising Obstetrics and general Gynaecology. It was during this 4 year period that Jaco developed a passion for patients suffering from infertility.

This led to his return to academic medicine at the University of the Free State for further studies in the field of Reproductive Medicine. He obtained his certificate in Reproductive Medicine (cum laude) from the College of Medicine of South Africa in 2016. Reproductive Medicine is a deeper, more focused study of:

  • Infertility (including the whole spectrum of assisted reproductive treatments);
  • Endometriosis (including other conditions of pelvic pain);
  • Recurrent miscarriages;
  • Abnormal conditions related to female hormones;
  • Specialist management of the menopause & contraception;
  • Uterine abnormalities;
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding.

During this time Dr Jaco occupied the position as Senior Lecturer and Head of the Unit for Human Reproduction at the University of the Free State.  Ever since April 2017 he has been in full-time private practice as Infertility and Reproductive Medicine Specialist.  He is however still appointed as a part-time lecturer at the University of the Free State, responsible for helping Gynaecologists to further practice in Infertility and Reproductive Medicine.

Dr Jaco has been practising infertility medicine since 2012, performing the whole spectrum of treatment including IVF, ICSI, IUI, PGT, ERA, Testis biopsy etc.

An integral part of his interest and expertise includes minimally invasive Gynaecological surgery. He has spent some time at the world-renowned endoscopic training facility at IRCAD, France and has hosted several endoscopic workshops during his stay at the university. He has performed more than 4,000 endoscopic procedures since qualifying in 2006. Of these include approximately 200 total laparoscopic hysterectomies and more than 100 cases of deep infiltrating endometriosis.

“Guiding patients suffering from infertility is a very challenging journey, but experiencing the joy of one couple reaching their dream is what makes me go back every day. “
